Sauerland
|
The Hochsauerland is bordered in the west by the Märkischer Kreis, in the north by the Soester Börde and the Teutoburg Forest, in the east by the Nordhessisches Bergland and in the south by the Siegerland and the region around Biggesee. The Ruhr river, which originates north of Winterberg, flows through the Hochsauerland. The highest point in the Hochsauerland and also the highest point in Nordrhein-Westfalen is Langenberg mountain – 843.20 meters above sea level; the lowest point is on the Ruhr in Arnsberg-Voßwinkel at Haus Füchten with 146.00 meters above sea level. An extensive system of biking trails has been made in the wonderful mountain region of Hochsauerland. The trails lead around Winterberg, Schmallenberg, Hallenberg, Medebach, Brilon, Olsberg, and Willingen. |
