The Soester Börde (fertile plain) is located in the middle of Westphalia, between Sauerland in the south and Münsterland in the north. It is known for its fertile soil. The Hanseatic city of Soest is the center of the region and gives its name to the landscape, which is part of the Hellweg Börde. The Soester Börde forms the midpoint of the fertile Hellweg Börde. In the west, it is adjoined by the Werl-Unnaer Börde, and in the east by the Geseker Börde. The loess deposits between Unna in the west and Geseke in the east are up to 10 meters thick in some places, at other spots they are only a few meters deep. The loess soil is especially fertile. Mainly grain and vegetables are raised here. The climate of the Soester Börde has lower average rainfall and slightly higher temperatures than the surrounding areas. |
